2021 US National Seismic Hazard Model for the State of Hawaii

Mark D. Petersen et al.

Summary: The 2021 US National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) for the State of Hawaii has updated the previous assessment by incorporating new data and modeling techniques, providing more accurate forecasts for ground shaking in the region. The results show that there is a significant chance of slight or greater damaging ground motions across most of the island chain.

Earthquake Risk of Gas Pipelines in the Conterminous United States and Its Sources of Uncertainty

N. Simon Kwong et al.

Summary: Currently, there is limited research on systematically quantifying the nationwide earthquake risk of gas pipelines in the US, and national guidance for operators to assess the earthquake risk of their assets is lacking. This study quantifies the earthquake risk of gas transmission pipelines in the US and identifies the associated uncertainties. The results can be used for comparison with other risk assessments, facilitate discussions on alternative approaches, and aid in decision-making.

Multihazard Scenarios for Regional Seismic Risk Assessment of Spatially Distributed Infrastructure

Nafiseh Soleimani et al.

Summary: This study introduces a method for creating an ensemble of multihazard scenarios for efficient evaluation of spatially distributed infrastructure. The combination of a small set of multihazard scenarios with computed weights accurately represents the probabilistic hazard, allowing for further reduction in scenario quantity based on desired tradeoff between acceptable errors and computational efficiency.
