Development of a fragility and vulnerability model for global seismic risk analyses

Luis Martins et al.

Summary: The study developed an analytical fragility and vulnerability model covering the most common building classes globally, with nearly five hundred functions developed to cover various combinations of construction material, height, lateral load resisting system, and seismic design level. Fragility and vulnerability were determined through nonlinear time-history analyses and validated through various tests.

Probabilistic seismic risk assessment for the Eastern Himalayas, China

Changlong Li et al.

Summary: The study developed building taxonomy and vulnerability models for buildings in the Eastern Himalayas, estimating the distribution of building types and their potential losses in seismic scenarios. The findings indicate that the city center of Lhasa faces the highest risk, with reinforced concrete and unreinforced masonry buildings contributing significantly to the economic losses.

NGA-East Ground-Motion Characterization model part I: Summary of products and model development

Christine A. Goulet et al.

Summary: This article presents an overview of the NGA-East research project, which aimed to develop a new ground motion characterization model for Central and Eastern North America. The project resulted in a set of 17 ground motion models for different parameters, with adjustments for source depth, hanging-wall effects, and hazard computations in the Gulf Coast Region. Innovative technologies were developed to increase transparency and repeatability in the GMC building process, with a focus on quantifying epistemic uncertainty objectively. The project underwent a comprehensive peer review process before its release.
