Data-driven modeling of general damping systems by k-means clustering and two-stage regression

Jia Guo et al.

Summary: Damping, a complex phenomenon in structural analysis and design, is modeled using a data-driven framework in this paper. The framework includes pre-defined dictionaries, clustering technique, and a two-stage regression procedure. Numerical examples and experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of this approach for general damping systems.

Structural dynamic vibration absorber using a tuned inerter eddy current damper

Dawei Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes the use of the inertance effect in an inerter eddy current damper (IECD) to construct a dynamic vibration absorber for seismic protection of civil structures. The IECD consists of a ball screw, a conductor, permanent magnets, and a back iron. The proposed numerical damping model is validated through dynamic tests and an optimal design method for the tuned inerter eddy current damper (TIECD) is developed. The effectiveness of the proposed TIECD is then validated through a shake table test and numerical simulation.

DynNet: Physics-based neural architecture design for nonlinear structural response modeling and prediction

Soheil Sadeghi Eshkevari et al.

Summary: A physics-based recurrent neural network model is proposed in this study to accurately estimate dynamic responses of linear and nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom systems. Compared with other models, this model has higher accuracy and requires fewer trainable variables. Numerical case studies demonstrate the network's ability to learn different nonlinear behaviors of dynamic systems with high accuracy.
