Drug-impaired driving and traffic collisions: Study on a cross section of the Italian population

Sara Odoardi et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the association between road accidents and the presence of drug abuse markers in drivers' biological fluids. The results indicate that alcohol, cannabinoids, and cocaine are the most frequently detected substances. The concentrations of drugs in urine are generally higher than in blood. The presence of cannabis or cocaine markers in drivers' urine is strongly associated with a higher risk of being involved in a road accident, even if they are no longer under the influence of these drugs at the time of the accident.

Testing for Trenbolone, an Anabolic Steroid, in Biological Fluids and Head Hair in a Postmortem Case

Laurie Gheddar et al.

Summary: A 60-year-old man who was a regular trainer in a fitness center and a long-term user of anabolic steroids was found dead at home. The autopsy revealed heart failure with evidence of trenbolone, an anabolic steroid, in various autopsy specimens, including hair. The presence of trenbolone in hair suggests repetitive exposures and highlights the importance of testing for anabolic steroids in cases of heart failure.

Post-mortem investigation into a death involving doping agents: The case of a body builder

Donata Favretto et al.

Summary: A young male preparing for a bodybuilding competition was found dead in a hotel room. The autopsy revealed cardiomegaly and organ congestion. Thorough toxicological investigation identified the misuse of clenbuterol and drostanolone, among other doping substances, as the underlying cause of death.

Summary: The illegal market of counterfeit and falsified medicines and supplements containing unlabeled pharmaceuticals is expanding worldwide, posing a threat to public health. The main risks are related to the intrinsic toxicity of the substances found, especially when taken without a therapeutic indication.

Simultaneous testing for anabolic steroids in human hair specimens collected from various anatomic locations has several advantages when compared with the standard head hair analysis

Pascal Kintz et al.

Summary: Hair testing for anabolic steroids in body hair has advantages of higher concentration and longer detection window compared to head hair. This is demonstrated in eight authentic cases where body hair concentrations were consistently higher than head hair concentrations.

In a Case of Death Involving Steroids, Hair Testing is More Informative than Blood or Urine Testing

Summary: A former weightlifter died at home from anabolic steroids abuse, with no remarkable findings in body examination but repetitive abuse shown in biological specimens analysis. Hair analysis confirmed abuse of testosterone, boldenone, trenbolone, and metandienone, indicating the importance of paying attention to anabolic steroids in cases of sudden cardiac death.
