Three-Carbon Linked Dihydroartemisinin-Isatin Hybrids: Design, Synthesis and Their Antiproliferative Anticancer Activity

Summary: A series of dihydroartemisinin-isatin hybrids were designed and synthesized, and their antiproliferative activity against lung cancer cell lines was evaluated. The hybrids showed significant activity, surpassing the activity of dihydroartemisinin and artemisinin. In particular, hybrid 6a demonstrated comparable activity to common chemotherapeutic drugs and showed higher potency against multidrug-resistant lung cancer cell lines. Furthermore, hybrid 6a exhibited good selectivity and stability, making it a promising candidate for further development as an anti-lung cancer chemotherapeutic agent.

Artemisinin-isatin hybrids with potential antiproliferative activity against breast cancer

Summary: This study designed and synthesized a series of artemisinin-isatin hybrids and evaluated their antiproliferative activity against breast cancer cells. The preliminary results showed that some of the hybrids exhibited activity against both drug-sensitive and doxorubicin-resistant breast cancer cell lines. Structure-activity relationship analysis revealed the significant influence of linker and substituents on the activity. Certain hybrids displayed the most active anti-cancer activity, comparable to doxorubicin. Therefore, these hybrids could serve as important templates for developing novel anti-breast cancer agents.

The anti-lung cancer activity of propylene tethered dihydroartemisinin-isatin hybrids

Current and future burden of breast cancer: Global statistics for 2020 and 2040

Summary: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide, with over 2.3 million new cases and 685,000 deaths in 2020. There is significant geographic variation in incidence rates, with lower rates in some Asian and African countries and higher rates in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Northern America, and parts of Europe. Mortality rates show less variation, but transitioning countries still bear a disproportionate burden of breast cancer deaths. By 2040, the burden of breast cancer is predicted to increase further due to population growth and ageing. Global efforts are needed to address this growing burden, especially in transitioning countries where incidence rates are rising rapidly and mortality rates remain high.
