Structural, electronic and optical properties of AB bilayer graphene intercalated by Sr atom: A first principles study

O. Farkad et al.

Summary: The intercalation of Sr atoms in AB stacked bilayer graphene system and its effect on the structural, electronic and optical properties have been investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The intercalated structure shows higher stability and leads to metallic behavior and optical anisotropy in graphene.

Electronic and optical properties of ultra-small diameter armchair carbon and boron nitride nanotubes by PBE, TB-mBJ and YS-PBE0 functionals

R. Takassa et al.

Summary: The electronic and optical properties of ultra-small carbon and boron nitride nanotubes were investigated using three different density functional methods. The hybrid functional YS-PBE0 performed the best for calculating the band gap of boron nitride nanotubes, while the PBE and TB-mBJ functionals showed smaller errors for carbon nanotubes. The dielectric function was anisotropic for all nanotubes, with higher static refractive index in the carbon nanotubes and an inverse correlation with diameter.

Electronic and mechanical properties of (6,1) single-walled carbon nanotubes with different tube diameters: a theoretical study

Y. T. Singh et al.

Summary: Through density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we investigated the electronic and mechanical properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with different diameters. Our results show that as the bond length increases, the energy bandgap decreases, with the lowest formation energy obtained at a specific bond length. Moreover, by calculating Young's modulus, we found that a specific bond length exhibited the highest value.

Computational Studies of the Excitonic and Optical Properties of Armchair SWCNT and SWBNNT for Optoelectronics Applications

Yahaya Saadu Itas et al.

Summary: This study calculated the optical refractive constants of (5, 5) SWBNNT and (5, 5) SWCNT systems in both parallel and perpendicular directions. It also extended the optical behaviors of the nanotubes to perpendicular directions and investigated the effects of diameter on optical properties. The results showed that (5, 5) SWBNNT had the best optical reflection, while (5, 5) SWCNT had the best optical refraction. The study observed new features in both nanotubes in perpendicular directions due to new optical band gaps.

Study of structural, electronic, magnetic and vibrational properties of CoFeTiSi quaternary Heusler alloy

Srimanta Mitra et al.

Summary: We have synthesized and measured the structural and magnetic properties of CoFeTiSi quaternary Heusler alloy. Ab-initio first principle calculations were performed to investigate its half-metallic behavior and the effect of disorder. The alloy exhibits a high saturation magnetization, Curie temperature, and spinwave-stiffness constant. It is also found to be resistant to lattice distortion induced by atomic swaps. The study suggests that this alloy may be a viable candidate for spintronic applications at room temperature.

Intercalation of Sr in AA stacked bilayer graphene : DFT study of the electronic structure and optical properties

O. Farkad et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of strontium intercalation on the structure and electronic properties of AA-stacked bilayer graphene were investigated using first-principles calculations. The results showed that strontium intercalation influences the electronic band structures of graphene, with significant contributions from the p and d orbitals of the strontium atom. The electron density is highest around the carbon atoms, allowing for efficient transfer of electric charges from the strontium atom. The intercalated graphene material exhibited metallic behavior, as confirmed by the increase in static refractive index in the vertical polarization and divergence in the parallel mode.
