Patient Demographics and Clinical Outcomes Among Type 1 Diabetes Patients Using Continuous Glucose Monitors: Data From T1D Exchange Real-World Observational Study

Daniel J. DeSalvo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to provide real-world evidence of the benefits of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) on glycemic management. The results showed that CGM users had better glycemic control and lower rates of DKA and severe hypoglycemia events compared to nonusers. However, significant sociodemographic disparities in CGM use were observed.

Barriers and Facilitators to Diabetes Device Adoption for People with Type 1 Diabetes

Molly L. Tanenbaum et al.

Summary: This article reviews the barriers and facilitators to the adoption and sustained use of diabetes devices. Consistent insurance coverage, support for providers and clinics, structured education and support for technology users, and access to support resources are known facilitators for sustained adoption.

Racial-Ethnic Disparities in Diabetes Technology Use Among Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes

Shivani Agarwal et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found significant racial-ethnic disparities in insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor use among people with type 1 diabetes, with socioeconomic status not being the sole driver of these disparities. Future research should focus on minority young adults' preferences and issues within the medical system to explain these differences.

Benefits of Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Pregnancy

Jennifer M. Yamamoto et al.

Summary: CGM has become increasingly available for pregnant women with type 1 diabetes, with NICE guidelines in the UK now recommending real-time CGM for all pregnant individuals with the condition. This will facilitate wider access to CGM and provide better support for managing diabetes during pregnancy.

Changes in Device Uptake and Glycemic Control Among Pregnant Women With Type 1 Diabetes: Data From the T1D Exchange

Carol J. Levy et al.

Summary: The study found that the use of continuous glucose monitors (CGM) increased among pregnant women between 2010-2013 and 2016-2018, while the use of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) decreased. There was also a downward trend in HbA1c levels.

Racial Disparities in Diabetes Technology Use and Outcomes in Type 1 Diabetes in a Safety-Net Hospital

Kathryn L. Fantasia et al.

Summary: There are racial/ethnic disparities in the use of diabetes technology among adults with type 1 diabetes in urban safety-net hospitals, with non-White patients, particularly Black and other race/ethnicity, being significantly less likely to use continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) compared to White patients. However, the use of any diabetes technology is associated with better glycemic control, with the combination of CGM and CSII showing the lowest levels of hemoglobin A1c across all racial/ethnic groups. Further research is needed to explore barriers to accessing diabetes technology in non-White populations.
