Pervaporation desalination with graphene oxide membranes: The influence of cation type and loading

K. E. Gurianov et al.

Summary: This paper reports the pervaporation desalination performance of graphene oxide (GO) membranes for salts solutions. The interlayer distance of GO expands upon ions absorption, leading to a decrease in water permeance. Carbon-based spacers can be used to improve membrane performance by increasing permeate flux.

Multifunctional integrated sandwich-structured evaporator based on nanofibrous membrane for efficient photothermal seawater desalination

Haoyan Bai et al.

Summary: This study proposes a sandwich-structured nanofibrous membrane for highly efficient seawater evaporation desalination. The membrane consists of a top thin layer made with MXene to improve photothermal conversion efficiency, highly hydrophobic electrospun PVDF-HFP fibers in the middle to enable self-floating, and a hydrophilic bottom layer prepared by depositing cross-linked polydopamine and polyethyleneimine for direct contact with seawater. Under solar radiation, the membrane exhibits high solar thermal conversion efficiency and evaporation rate.

The role of oxidation level in mass-transport properties and dehumidification performance of graphene oxide membranes

E. A. Chernova et al.

Summary: This study reports on gas and vapor transport properties of ultra-thin graphene oxide membranes with different C:O ratios. It was found that a decrease in C:O ratio leads to an increase in water vapor permeance and a slight reduction in permeance towards permanent gases. Experimental and modeling results show the decisive role of H2O diffusivity in GO membranes.
