Life cycle assessment of desiccant-Dew point evaporative cooling systems with water reclamation for poultry houses in hot and humid climate

Jean Paul Harrouz et al.

Summary: Desiccant-dew point evaporative based cooling systems are effective for ventilation and cooling in hot and humid climates but are limited by high water consumption. This study proposes integrating a water reclamation unit with the cooling system to generate water from the adsorbent's humid regeneration stream. Results show that the hybrid system using MIL-101-Cr reduces thermal and electrical energy consumption by 17% and 48% respectively compared to the system using silica gel, resulting in 27% lower operating costs.

Performance evaluation of a solar powered solid desiccant evaporative cooling system with different recirculation air ratios

Lanbo Lai et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a solar-assisted solid desiccant cooling system integrated with M-cycle IEC, which has the best cooling performance in hot and humid areas. By adjusting the recirculation air ratio, the system can achieve a reduction in supply air temperature and humidity ratio, but it also increases the water consumption rate.

Summary: This study investigated two sustainable ventilation systems suitable for hot and humid climates to enhance indoor conditions for poultry. It was found that system II was able to meet the thermal and air quality requirements of the poultry house at a 35% lower operating cost compared to system I.

A spatiotemporal indirect evaporative cooler enabled by transiently interceding water mist

Summary: The building sector consumes about half of global energy, with over 55% used for air conditioning. Traditional refrigerant-based chillers are energy-intensive and have negative impacts on ozone layer and global warming. An innovative indirect evaporative cooling cycle without hydrophilic surfaces has been proposed to improve cooling efficiency and heat transfer performance.

Summary: In the coming decades, a large portion of the world population is expected to embrace urbanization, leading to a significant increase in the demand for thermal comfort. Alternates to conventional air-cooling systems, such as water-based evaporation cooling, are being explored to address sustainability issues. The development of efficient systems like the Maisotsenko cycle shows promise but may pose challenges in terms of water usage on a large scale. The key focus for the future of air-cooling systems is to improve water conservation, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Evaporative Cooling Integrated with Solid Desiccant Systems: A Review

Lanbo Lai et al.

Summary: Evaporative cooling technology has been considered as an alternative to conventional vapor-compression air conditioning for dry climates due to its simple structure and low operating cost. It includes direct evaporative cooling and indirect evaporative cooling, with the ability to lower air temperature to outdoor wet-bulb temperature. When integrated with solid desiccant systems, ECT can be suitable for a wider range of weather conditions, offering potential as a replacement for traditional cooling systems in hot and humid environments.
