The N,N,N-trimethylammonium moiety as tetrel bond donor site: crystallographic and computational studies

Andrea Daolio et al.

Summary: Five structures with the N,N,N-trimethylammonium unit were investigated to study the ability of the N+-CH3 unit as a tetrel bond donor site. The study found that charged and neutral electron density donors have close contacts with carbon atoms of methyl groups on the ammonium moiety. The use of Hirshfeld atom refinement (HAR) technique helped in accurately determining the positions of hydrogen atoms and understanding the interactions occurring in the crystals.

Tetrel and Pnictogen Bonds Complement Hydrogen and Halogen Bonds in Framing the Interactional Landscape of Barbituric Acids

Vijith Kumar et al.

Summary: Experimental and theoretical studies have shown that imide protons form short hydrogen bonds and bromine or chlorine atoms form halogen bonds in barbituric acid and indandione derivatives; imide nitrogen atoms and C(sp(2)) and C(sp(3)) atoms act as effective bond donors, resulting in distinctive crystal lattices.

Competition between Inter and Intramolecular Tetrel Bonds: Theoretical Studies Complemented by CSD Survey

Wiktor Zierkiewicz et al.

Summary: Crystal structures illustrate the ability of TF3 group to form intramolecular tetrel bonds with amino groups in naphthalene. Ab initio calculations were used to assess the strength of these bonds and their impact on the TF3 group's ability to engage in intermolecular tetrel bonds with other nucleophiles. The study found that CN- anionic base can form strong tetrel bonds, while NCH base forms weaker bonds, only occurring for heavier tetrel atoms Sn and Pb.

Hyperpolarized C-13 Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Fumarate Metabolism by Parahydrogen-induced Polarization: A Proof-of-Concept in vivo Study

Wiktor Zierkiewicz et al.

Summary: The research focused on the feasibility of using PHIP technology for MRI of fumarate metabolism, developing a cost-effective and high-yield synthetic pathway for hydrogenating ADC. The trans-selectivity of the hydrogenation reaction of ADC using a ruthenium-based catalyst was elucidated. The experimental results demonstrated the generation of sufficiently polarized [1-C-13]fumarate using a simple PHIP setup, which was used for detecting hyperpolarized C-13 malate in murine liver tissue and for in vivo C-13 MR spectroscopy and imaging in a mouse model of acetaminophen-induced hepatitis.
