Tomato MED25 regulates fruit ripening by interacting with EIN3-like transcription factors

Lei Deng et al.

Summary: MED25 plays a crucial role in fruit ripening by interacting with master transcription factors of the EIN3/EIL family and forming a transcriptional module with EIL1. It controls ethylene-induced gene transcription by facilitating pre-initiation complex formation and regulates the expression of ripening-related regulatory and structural genes through promoter binding. The EIL1-MED25 module, along with its downstream regulators, orchestrates both positive and negative feedback transcriptional circuits to fine-tune ethylene homeostasis during fruit ripening.

MEDIATOR SUBUNIT17 is required for transcriptional optimization of root system architecture in Arabidopsis

Rekha Agrawal et al.

Summary: Mediator subunit MED17 regulates root system architecture by establishing a link between the auxin and sucrose signaling pathways. Sucrose and auxin are important factors in root development, but the factors that connect their signaling pathways are poorly understood. This study reveals that MED17 plays a role in integrating the sugar and auxin signaling pathways in Arabidopsis, and it acts as a nodal point to connect sucrose and auxin signaling.

OsBSK2, a putative brassinosteroid-signalling kinase, positively controls grain size in rice

Hua Yuan et al.

Summary: Grain size is an important trait in rice that affects grain yield. This study identified a mutant, glw10, which had reduced grain length and weight. The gene GLW10 was found to encode a putative brassinosteroid signaling kinase, OsBSK2, which regulates cell expansion and grain size. OsBSK2 interacts with the BR receptor kinase OsBRI1 and can form homodimers or heterodimers with OsBSK3 and OsBSK4. The OsBSKs are highly expressed in young panicles and spikelet hulls, indicating their role in controlling grain size. This study provides new insights into the genetic mechanisms of grain size regulation in rice.

MEDIATOR SUBUNIT17 integrates jasmonate and auxin signaling pathways to regulate thermomorphogenesis

Rekha Agrawal et al.

Summary: This study reveals the role of the Mediator complex as an integrator of jasmonate (JA) and auxin signaling pathways during thermomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis. Warm temperature induces the expression of JA signaling genes and promotes the accumulation of the JA signaling receptor COI1 and degradation of the JA signaling repressor JASMONATE-ZIM-DOMAIN PROTEIN9. The Mediator complex, specifically the mediator subunit MED17, occupies the promoters of thermosensory genes and facilitates enrichment of H3K4me3, which is dependent on the bHLH transcription factor PIF4.

Summary: The planting density has a significant impact on the yield and quality of fruit crops. The yield per unit area is the product of fruit yield per plant and the number of plants per unit area. Fruit size increases with decreasing planting density, while total yield increases with increasing density up to a certain level. However, fruit quality decreases with increasing planting density.

Reactive Oxygen Species Link Gene Regulatory Networks During Arabidopsis Root Development

Kosuke Mase et al.

Summary: Plant development is highly regulated by plant hormones and signaling pathways, with reactive oxygen species (ROS) playing an essential role as signaling molecules. ROS accumulation in plant roots helps maintain cell proliferation and differentiation balance for proper root growth. However, disruption of this balance affects how plants respond to environmental changes. The crosstalk between ROS and hormone signals, mediated by transcription factors, is crucial for regulating root growth and immune responses in plants.
