A glyoxylate-containing benzene derivative and butenolides from a marine algicolous fungus Aspergillus sp. SCSIO 41304

Summary: A new glyoxylate-containing benzene derivative (Compound 1) was isolated from the marine algicolous fungus, Aspergillus sp. SCSIO 41304, along with ten known compounds. Compound 1 possesses a rare methyl glyoxylate moiety and shows antibacterial and enzyme inhibitory activities. Among the tested compounds, aspulvinone H (Compound 4) showed moderate inhibition against acetylcholinesterase and pancreatic lipase.

Inhibiting pancreatic lipase, an important enzyme in fat metabolism, is a promising target for obesity treatment. This study suggests that a compound called aloeinin A, found in Aloe vera, may be an effective inhibitor of pancreatic lipase, providing potential benefits for reducing hyperlipidemia caused by obesity.

Characterization of the synergistic inhibitory effect of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside and catechin on pancreatic lipase

Summary: This study identified novel pancreatic lipase (PL) inhibitors, cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G) and catechin, extracted from black rice and adzuki bean coat extracts. The combination of C3G and catechin showed a synergistic effect in inhibiting PL, and molecular docking analysis revealed that these polyphenols formed interactions with PL amino acid residues. These findings suggest that C3G and catechin have potential for developing food supplements to prevent obesity.

Additionally, investigations on the structural and physicochemical properties of the target molecules revealed the important contribution of electrostatic interactions to the enzyme inhibition potential.

Antidiabetic Activity and In Silico Molecular Docking of Polyphenols from Ammannia baccifera L. subsp. Aegyptiaca (Willd.) Koehne Waste: Structure Elucidation of Undescribed Acylated Flavonol Diglucoside

Summary: Chemical investigation of the aerial parts of Ammania aegyptiaca ethanol extract (AEEE) revealed high concentrations of polyphenols and flavonoids, exhibiting notable antioxidant activity. A previously undescribed acylated diglucoside flavonol, MGGG, was isolated from AEEE, along with four known polyphenols. In vitro studies demonstrated the inhibitory effects of MGGG, AEEE, and other compounds against digestive enzymes, with MGGG showing the highest binding affinity towards alpha-amylase. Furthermore, AEEE showed significant antidiabetic effects in STZ-induced diabetic rats, reducing high blood glucose levels, restoring enzyme activities, and improving lipid profiles.

Synthesis, Biological Activity and Molecular Docking Studies of Novel Sulfonate Derivatives Bearing Salicylaldehyde

ADME studies were also conducted to uncover the pharmacokinetics and medicinal properties of the target compounds.

Summary: In this study, analysis of Leucosidea sericea leaf and stem extracts using ultraperformance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight-mass spectrometry identified various types of compounds. Further purification led to the isolation of 22 compounds, including a new triterpenoid. Some of these compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory activity against digestive enzymes, and two compounds showed higher potency than the positive control.

Summary: A new polyketide derivative penicipurate A (1) containing a 3-hydroxydecanoic acid ester moiety was isolated from the solid cultures of the endophytic fungal strain Penicillium purpurogenum in the leaves of Edgeworthia chrysantha. The structure of 1 was determined using various spectroscopic methods and chemical degradation. Compound 1 exhibited moderate inhibitory activity against pancreatic lipase.

Chemical constituents from mushroom Geoglossum fallax and their bioactive activities

Among them, compound B13 showed the most potent PL inhibition activity and excellent stability in gastrointestinal fluids and metabolic stability in human liver preparations. These findings suggest that chalcone-like compounds are promising candidates for developing novel anti-obesity agents targeting PL, with B13 serving as a potential lead compound.

Structurally diverse biflavonoids from the fruits of Citrus medica L. var. sarcodactylis Swingle and their hypolipidemic and immunosuppressive activities

Summary: The fruits of Citrus medica L. var. sarcodactylis Swingle are not only used as a traditional medicinal plant but also as a delicious food. Six new biflavonoids and twelve known biflavonoid derivatives were isolated from the fruits for the first time. Some of these compounds showed moderate inhibitory effects on pancreatic lipase activity and potent immunosuppressive activities.
