Subramani Supriya

Summary: In this study, unidirectional sodium trimetaphosphate doped glycine phosphite (STM-GPI) single crystals were successfully grown using a modified thermal gradient solution (TGS) growth method. The effects of doping on intrinsic and extrinsic point defects, lattice parameter values, intensity of reflections, and laser damage threshold were analyzed. Changes in bending and stretching vibrations in functional groups were observed, and analysis of crystal surface changes during real-time growth was conducted. Additionally, measurements of Curie temperature and cutoff wavelength were carried out.

Concomitant structural and ferroelectric properties of Sr2Bi4Ti5O18 ceramics sintered with (K0.41Na0.53Li0.06)(Nb0.89Sb0.06Ta0.05)O3 perovskit

Rajasekhar Bhimireddi et al.

Summary: Lead free piezoelectric ceramics were synthesized using pre-reacted powders of Sr2Bi4Ti5O18 (SBT) and [(K0.41Na0.53Li0.06)(Nb0.89Sb0.06Ta0.05)O-3] (KNLNST). The study confirmed that KNLNST could be dissolved in SBT phase with a maximum solubility of less than 0.15 mol. Scanning electron microscope observations showed an increase in grain size and plate-like morphology with increasing x. The samples with x = 0.2 exhibited superior relative permittivity, dielectric loss, and maximum polarization compared to undoped SBT. The temperature dependent dielectric measurements confirmed a decrease in Curie temperature with increasing x.

Filipa M. Oliveira et al.

Summary: It has been found that two-dimensional layered metallic materials Fe3GeTe2 and Ni3GeTe2 have stable water- and air-stability. Fe3GeTe2 has shown excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, while the electrochemical catalytic performance of Ni3GeTe2 has not been reported. Single-layered FGT was obtained through exfoliation, showing superior catalytic activity in alkaline media. FGT achieved the best performance in OER, consistent with theoretical predictions.

Optimizing the photostrictive performance of BiFeO3-based multiferroic ceramics

J. X. Hu et al.

Summary: Lead-free multiferroic ceramics BPFM-BT were successfully fabricated with enhanced ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties, narrow bandgap, and improved photostriction performance by introducing Pr into the Bi3+ site. Optimizing the thickness of the sample improved the photo-induced strain and light response speed, while an external magnetic field reduced the photostrictive performance. These ceramics show great potential in the multifunctionality application of wireless photosensitive sensors.

Nanoscale Design of High-Quality Epitaxial Aurivillius Thin Films

Elzbieta Gradauskaite et al.

Summary: Efforts to integrate ferroelectric materials into nonvolatile, low energy consuming memories have focused on perovskite oxide materials. However, finite-size effects hinder their down-scaling for nanodevices, and alternative materials with robust polar properties are needed. Layered ferroelectrics of the Aurivillius phase have emerged as promising candidates with robust polarization at subunit-cell thicknesses, but controlled growth in epitaxial thin film form remains challenging. Here, the stabilization of coalescent layer-by-layer growth mode for Aurivillius family homologues is demonstrated, providing a systematic framework for the integration of high-quality epitaxial layered ferroelectrics into oxide electronics.

Particle size-dependent magnetic hyperthermia in gadolinium silicide micro- and nano-particles from calorimetry and AC magnetometry

Z. Boekelheide et al.

Summary: Self-regulating magnetic hyperthermia using gadolinium silicide as a candidate material shows promise due to its high magnetization and Curie temperature near the desired treatment temperature. Studies have shown that particle size may be used to tune the Curie temperature and specific loss power, with smaller particles exhibiting decreased specific loss power. Implementing self-regulating magnetic hyperthermia faces challenges such as materials having low coercivity near the magnetic transition temperature, but rare-earth compounds with high magnetization may offer significant heating potential.
