Petrogenesis of low-Ti dolerite sills from Parana-Etendeka LIP in Cerro do Coronel region, southernmost Brazil

Matheus Silva Simoes et al.

Summary: This study investigates four dolerite sills related to the Parana-Etendeka Large Igneous Province (LIP) in southern Brazil. The sills underwent fractional crystallization and assimilation of upper and lower crustal materials, representing shallow-depth equilibration of magmas sourced from deeper crustal levels.

Correlations among large igneous provinces related to the West Gondwana breakup: A geochemical database reappraisal of Early Cretaceous plumbing systems

Antomat A. Macedo Filho et al.

Summary: The opening and spreading of the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and South America during the Early Cretaceous were accompanied by tholeiitic magmatism and minor volcanic activity. The Parana Magmatic Province, Etendeka Magmatic Province, and Equatorial Atlantic Magmatic Province are important regions associated with this process. These provinces share similar geochemical signatures and magma types, and their intrusive remnants form one of the largest and most extensive set of plumbing systems on Earth.

Age, geochemistry and mantle source of the Alto Diamantino basalts: Insights on NW Paran acute accent a Magmatic Province

Tommaso Giovanardi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geochemical and geochronological characteristics of basalts from the southern Mato Grosso region of Brazil and compares them with other volcanic rocks from the Paraná Magmatic Province. The results suggest that the Alto Diamantino basalts may represent the northwesternmost expression of the Paraná Magmatic Province, and the origin and formation processes of the magmas are still debated.

Magmatic evolution of Low-Ti lavas in the southern Paran′a-Etendeka Large Igneous Province

Lucas M. M. Rossetti et al.

Summary: The article discusses the volcanic stratigraphy and magma evolution processes of different volcanic units in the southern section of the Paran 'a-Etendeka large igneous province. The study results show that volcanic units have distinct geochemical differences, reflecting the control of source composition and crystallization processes on erupted lava compositions.

Geochronology of the Parana-Etendeka large igneous province

Allan Silva Gomes et al.

Summary: Constraining the timing of large igneous provinces is crucial for evaluating their petrogenetic evolution and potential links to mass extinctions. The Parana-Etendeka continental flood basalts erupted during the Early Cretaceous, lasting approximately 1.6-3.0 million years and possibly temporally connected to the Weissert event.

Characteristics of Volcanic Reservoirs and Hydrocarbon Accumulation of Carboniferous System in Junggar Basin, China

Xiaozhi Wu et al.

Summary: The Carboniferous volcanic reservoirs in Junggar Basin are rich in hydrocarbon resources, with potential for great exploration. They are mostly located in a multi-island ocean-volcanic island arc structural-sedimentary environment, making them geologically eligible for forming in-situ volcanic reservoirs. Based on reservoir characteristics and hydrocarbon accumulation patterns, four different hydrocarbon accumulation patterns have been identified, and future exploration will focus on effective source rock development and hydrocarbon supply zones.

Pre-to-syn-rift tholeiitic magmatism in a transtensive hyperextended continental margin: Onshore and offshore magmatism of the Campos Basin, SE Brazil

Julio Almeida et al.

Summary: The geochemical and isotopic signatures of dyke swarms are crucial in defining tectonic environments and isotopic reservoirs. The Buzios-Cabo Frio dyke swarm represents pre-rift magmatism in the Campos Basin's onshore basement associated with the break-up of Gondwana. The FC evolutionary model for low-TiO2 tholeiitic magmatism is supported by petrological observations, suggesting emplacement at less than 10 km deep.
