Effects of conventional shot peening, severe shot peening, re-shot peening and precised grinding operations on fatigue performance of AISI 1050 railway axle steel

Okan Unal et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different treatment methods on AISI 1050 material and found that two-stage operations can achieve high residual stress depth and magnitude on the surface. Grinding and re-shot peening treatments can significantly reduce surface roughness, and increasing shot peening intensity can greatly improve hardness.

Low-cycle fatigue behavior for stainless-clad 304+Q235B bimetallic steel

Xiaowei Liao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the low-cycle fatigue properties of a stainless-clad 304 + Q235B bimetallic steel plate and provides a comprehensive understanding of its cyclic response, failure mode, and fatigue strength. The experimental results show that the steel possesses excellent low-cycle fatigue resistance.

Hysteresis-based identification approach for crack opening and closure stress in SiC/SiC fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites

Longbiao Li

Summary: In this paper, a hysteresis-based identification approach is developed to predict the matrix crack opening stress (COS) and cracking closure stress (CCS) for SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composite (CMC). Experimental COS and CCS are predicted using the hysteresis-based micromechanical crack opening and closure model. The effects of fiber volume fraction, interface shear stress, and interface debonding energy on the values of COS and CCS are discussed.

Shear fracture performance of the interface between ultra-high toughness cementitious composites and reactive powder concrete

Shilang Xu et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the fracture toughness of the interfaces between ultra-high toughness cementitious composite (UHTCC) and reactive powder concrete (RPC) with different casting intervals and surface roughness conditions. The results showed that the complete interfacial shear fracture process included three stages, and introducing different roughness conditions affected the unstable fracture toughness of the composite specimens. The study proposed a double-K crack propagation criterion for interfacial shear fracture of composite structures.
