Strengthening effect of phosphate sludge by-product and styrene-butadiene rubber on the properties of high-density polyethylene composites

Siham Ez-Zahraoui et al.

Summary: In this study, phosphate sludge (PS) by-product was used as a particle reinforcement for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composites. The addition of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) was found to improve the interfacial adhesion and enhance the strength and ductility of the composites. These new composites show promise for industrial applications that require a good stiffness/ductility balance.

Thermophysical characteristics of eco-friendly mortars containing recycled PET as partial sand replacement in dry and wet conditions

Nacer Akkouri et al.

Summary: Plastic waste recycling is important for protecting the environment. This study characterizes the thermophysical properties of an eco-friendly mortar by partially replacing sand with recycled PET. Experimental results show that the addition of recycled PET affects the workability, density, and thermophysical properties of the mortar. The correlation between compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity was also observed. This research highlights the potential use of recycled PET in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly construction materials.

Using Topsoil Analysis to Determine and Map Changes in Ni Co Pollution

Mehmet Cetin et al.

Summary: The change in soil quality due to soil pollution significantly affects the ecosystem. Heavy metals, such as nickel and cobalt, are particularly notorious as environmental pollutants due to their toxicity and bioaccumulation. Monitoring and mapping their concentrations is of great importance. In this study, top soil samples from the city center were analyzed for nickel and cobalt concentrations, and the data were statistically evaluated and mapped using geographic information systems (GIS) and interpolation methods. The results showed that the areas with the highest concentrations were generally located in the center of the study area, indicating increased pollution in areas with high human activities.

Control of the alumino-silico-phosphate geopolymers properties and structures by the phosphorus concentration

V. Mathivet et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the synthesis of geopolymers from metakaolin and phosphoric acid with varying [P] concentration and the addition of water to improve the viscosity for complex shapes. Measurements of viscosity, density, and consolidation times, as well as studies on microstructure and mechanical properties were conducted to assess the influence of water content on the material's structure. The results showed that the addition of water led to the formation of new amorphous networks in the geopolymers, impacting their properties.
