Degradation mechanism of hybrid fly ash/slag based geopolymers exposed to elevated temperatures

Y. Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the physicochemical properties of alkali-activated fly ash/GGBS (AAFS) up to 800 degrees C, revealing a linear relationship between crack density and ultrasonic pulse velocity. The addition of slag into geopolymers was found to reduce geopolymeric behaviors but further aggravate thermal damage under high temperatures. Conceptual models of AAF and AAFS were proposed to explain the degradation mechanism of low slag contained geopolymers.

Co-utilization of quarry tailings and fly ash for non-sintered ultra-lightweight aggregates (ULWAs) by autoclave technology

Shunfeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of using quarry tailings and fly ash to prepare lightweight aggregates. The addition of expand perlite powder and chemical foaming agents helps reduce density and create ultra-lightweight aggregates. The evolution of pore structures, as well as basic properties, were analyzed using SEM, MIP, and NMR. The results show that increasing expand perlite content improves compressive strength and water absorption but decreases bulk and apparent density. Adding chemical foaming agents leads to a transformation of isolated pores into connected pores, increasing total porosity.
