Hydration and Properties of Magnesium Potassium Phosphate Cement Modified by Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag: Influence of Fineness

Kuisheng Liu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the contributions of granulated blast-furnace slag with various finenesses to the performance development of magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC). It was found that the addition of slag could increase the setting time and decrease the fluidity of MKPC mortar. The physical contributions of slag to the early performance of MKPC mortar are substantial, while the chemical contributions are relatively small.

Value-added utilization of copper slag to enhance the performance of magnesium potassium phosphate cement

Zengqi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a high value-added utilization approach of copper slag to enhance the early performance of magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MPC). The experimental results show that the addition of copper slag can significantly increase the early compressive strength of MPC mortar, and the crystalline phases in copper slag can react with hydrates in the MPC system, increasing their content.

Effects of steel slag on the microstructure and mechanical properties of magnesium phosphate cement

Wenqiang Ruan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of steel slag addition on the strength and water resistance of magnesium phosphate cement (MPC), and proposes a hydration mechanism. The results show that with the addition of steel slag, the strength and water resistance of MPC are significantly enhanced. The steel slag also improves the compactness and stability of the cement.

Investigation of aluminum nitrate as a set retarder of magnesium potassium phosphate cement: Mechanisms involved in diluted suspension

Celine Cau Dit Coumes et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of aluminum nitrate on the hydration process of magnesium potassium phosphate (MKP) cement through experiments and thermodynamic modeling. The ways in which aluminum nitrate delayed cement hydration were identified, affecting the precipitation of hydration products. The modeled phase development matched well with experimental findings.

Investigation of hydration and setting process in nanosilica-cement blended pastes: In situ characterization using low field nuclear magnetic resonance

Anming She et al.

Summary: The effect of nano-SiO2 addition on early properties of Portland cement paste was characterized using low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Results showed that increasing nano-SiO2 addition accelerates the hydration process of cement and enhances early compressive strength. Low-field NMR technology is effective in predicting the strength and setting time of cement due to its non-destructive and non-invasive characteristics.

Amorphous-crystalline transformation control on the microstructural evolution of magnesium phosphate cements

Summary: Magnesium phosphate cements undergo a transformation from amorphous to crystalline during hardening, leading to an increase in porosity. However, the interlocked lath shaped microstructure provides a beneficial effect which outweighs the detrimental role of increased porosity, resulting in an increase in mechanical strength.
