A novel Deep Capsule Neural Network for Vowel Imagery patterns from EEG signals

Juan A. Ramirez-Quintana et al.

Summary: Speech imagery has been incorporated into Brain-Computer Interfaces for novel communication or control systems. Speech imagery involves imagining words, syllables, or vowels. This paper proposes a new classifier method called Capsules for Vowel Imagery (CapsVI) that uses a Deep Capsule Neural Network. Experiments with the DaSalla dataset demonstrate that CapsVI accurately models Speech-Related Potentials of Vowel Imagery and achieves high recognition accuracy for vowel pairwise classification.

Greed Is Good: Rapid Hyperparameter Optimization and Model Selection Using Greedy k-Fold Cross Validation

Daniel S. Soper

Summary: The study introduces a greedy k-fold cross validation method which significantly reduces the time required to identify the best-performing model within a fixed computational budget. This improved search time is consistent across various ML algorithms and real-world datasets. The study also presents a greedy early stopping method that outperforms other early stopping methods in terms of search time and quality of selected ML models.

Classification of Phonological Categories in Imagined Speech using Phase Synchronization Measure

Jerrin Thomas Panachakel et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of different phonological categories on phase synchronization in various cortical regions during speech imagery, finding that nasal and bilabial consonants lead to distinct activations. Therefore, prompts orthogonal in these phonological categories are recommended for speech imagery prompts.
