Spine-transformers: Vertebra labeling and segmentation in arbitrary field-of-view spine CTs via 3D transformers

Rong Tao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a two-stage deep learning-based solution for fully automatic labeling and segmentation of 3D vertebrae in arbitrary FOV CT images. The first stage tackles the challenging vertebra labeling problem with a novel transformers-based 3D object detector, while the second stage involves training a single multi-task network for segmentation and refinement of detected centers. The method proves effective through comprehensive experiments on public and in-house datasets.

Automatic vertebrae recognition from arbitrary spine MRI images by a category-Consistent self-calibration detection framework

Shen Zhao et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel vertebrae recognition system Can-See is proposed, which accurately classifies and predicts bounding boxes of vertebrae through a two-step detection framework with improved discriminative and self-calibration capabilities. Trained and evaluated on a large dataset, Can-See demonstrates high performance and outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Automatic Vertebra Localization and Identification in CT by Spine Rectification and Anatomically-constrained Optimization

Fakai Wang et al.

Summary: Accurate vertebra localization and identification are crucial in spine disorder diagnosis and surgery planning, but face challenges due to varying pathologies and imaging conditions. This paper proposes a robust method utilizing anatomical knowledge to facilitate vertebra localization, achieving a state-of-the-art identification rate of 97.4% on highly pathological CT images. The method outperforms competitors by halving the relative identification error rate.
