A damage-driven integration scheme in physically non-linear transient analysis for quasi-brittle materials

Chenjie Yu et al.

Summary: The standard Newton-Raphson scheme has issues in modeling fracture of quasi-brittle materials, and the incremental sequentially linear analysis (ISLA) has been proposed as a solution. This work focuses on dynamic damage modeling of quasi-brittle materials and proposes a damage integration scheme based on ISLA for non-linear transient analysis. The proposed method shows good agreements and accuracy in example tests.

A coupled smeared crack-plasticity model in incremental sequentially linear analysis for mixed failure modes

Chenjie Yu

Summary: This paper proposes a coupled smeared crack-plasticity model for simulating mixed failure modes. The model tracks the damage and displacement history through incremental sequentially linear analysis (ISLA) and resolves the limitations of a purely rotating crack model. The effectiveness of this model is demonstrated through in-plane tests.

Extension of incremental sequentially linear analysis to geometrical non-linearity with indirect displacement control

Chenjie Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, a method combining ISLA with indirect displacement control is introduced to stabilize localized damage process areas and prevent global unloading caused by geometric and physical nonlinearity. This method uses control points positioned independently of failure process zones for stability. Two masonry walls were tested and analyzed, showing stable post-peak results for large geometrically nonlinear displacements and accurately computing localized crack propagation.
