Effect of pre-strain on compression mode properties of magnetorheological elastomers

Hossein Vatandoost et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the significant impact of pre-strain on the performance of magnetorheological elastomers, which is further influenced by various factors with a greater effect observed in isotropic MREs. Additionally, simple models were proposed to predict and design the performance of MREs in compression mode.

Effects of iron particles' volume fraction on compression mode properties of magnetorheological elastomers

Hossein Vatandoost et al.

Summary: The experimental study investigated the effect of iron particle volume fraction (PVF) on the dynamic compression mode properties of isotropic and anisotropic magnetorheological elastomers (MREs). The results showed that PVF had a significant impact on the loss modulus of MREs, with a higher effect on the isotropic MREs compared to anisotropic MREs. The research also highlighted the strong dependence of MR effect on loading conditions, in addition to PVF.

Analysis of Styrene-Butadiene Based Thermoplastic Magnetorheological Elastomers with Surface-Treated Iron Particles

Arturo Tagliabue et al.

Summary: Magnetorheological elastomers (MRE) have the ability to change stiffness by applying a magnetic field. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) have been investigated as matrix material, while different surface treatments of carbonyl iron particles (CIPs) as filler affect the performance. The MR effect under static and dynamic load shows significant results.

Microstructural behavior of magnetorheological elastomer undergoing durability evaluation by stress relaxation

Mohd Aidy Faizal Johari et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the microstructural durability behavior of magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) materials by evaluating stress relaxation through torsional shear load. It identifies the novel micro-mechanisms responsible for the depleted performance of MRE and discusses the correlation between microstructural phenomena and the viscoelastic properties of MRE under stress relaxation. The study reveals a systematic correlation between microstructural deformation and durability performance of MRE, highlighting the potential for further research in this area.

Strength and stiffness characteristics of A3003 aluminum honeycomb core sandwich panels

S. Rajkumar

Summary: The demand for lightweight sandwich panels in various industrial sectors is increasing, with research focusing on weight and cost reduction. Sandwich panels, consisting of thin face sheets and lightweight cores, are used in public transport, aerospace, construction, machinery, and printing industries. The heterogeneous nature of honeycomb cores and complex load transfer paths make stiffness prediction difficult. Various types of sandwich panels are commercially available with different core materials and structures.
