A new strong pearlitic multi-principal element alloy to withstand wear at elevated temperatures

X. L. An et al.

Summary: The study focuses on revitalizing the pearlite structure in a newly developed multi-principal element alloy (MPEA) through a classic eutectoid reaction, resulting in a nanometre sized layered microstructure. This pearlitic structure significantly improves the strength, wear resistance, and high temperature stability of the alloy.

In-situ synthesized age-hardenable high-entropy composites with superior wear resistance

Yu Yin et al.

Summary: This work introduces a new approach to in-situ synthesize high-entropy composite (HEC) with high age-hardening ability and superior wear resistance. The composite shows enhanced hardness and compressive yield strength after aging at 800 degrees C for 96 h, resulting in significantly improved wear resistance compared to high-chromium cast iron. The unique microstructure of the HEC, including in-situ formed carbides, eutectic structures, and precipitates, effectively strengthens the soft FCC matrix and prevents severe delamination and cracking.

Microstructure evolution and wear mechanism of in situ prepared Ti-TiN cermet layers at high temperature

Qianqian Cheng et al.

Summary: Preparation of cermet-modified layers on titanium alloy surfaces using lasers is an effective method to enhance wear resistance. In this study, a Ti-TiN composite cermet layer was prepared on a titanium alloy surface through laser melting. The formed cermet layer exhibited improved wear resistance, especially at high temperatures, and the friction glaze layer formed in the wear scar further enhanced the wear resistance.

Evolution in microstructure, wear, corrosion, and tribocorrosion behavior of Mo-containing high-entropy alloy coatings fabricated by laser cladding

Yu Fu et al.

Summary: The exploration of non-equimolar high-entropy alloy coating provides a broader space for the development of high-performance coatings. The addition of Mo significantly increased the hardness and wear resistance, with CoCr2FeNiMo0.3 coating showing excellent performance in acidic NaCl solution. The tribocorrosion mechanism of the Mo-containing coating involved a combination of abrasion, adhesion wear, and corrosion.

Effect of Ti on the wear behavior of AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy during unidirectional and bi-directional sliding wear processes

Zhen Xu et al.

Summary: The addition of Titanium considerably enhances the wear resistance of High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) due to increased hardness. Bi-directional sliding reduces volume loss and this reduction is further decreased by more frequent reversal of the sliding direction. The decreased wear in bi-directional sliding is attributed to the Bauschinger effect.

Significant reduction in friction and wear of a high-entropy alloy via the formation of self-organized nanolayered structure

Lu Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a (CoCrFeNi)(90)Ag-10 high-entropy alloy with a low stacking fault energy (SFE) matrix and uniformly dispersed Ag precipitates shows a significant reduction in friction and wear through the spontaneous formation of nanolayered subsurface microstructure. This finding suggests a novel approach for designing high-entropy alloys that can achieve low friction and wear.

Summary: The study provides direct experimental evidence of chemical short-range atomic-scale ordering (CSRO) in a VCoNi medium-entropy alloy through diffraction and electron microscopy analysis. The research demonstrates that using specific crystallographic directions can reveal CSRO in face-centred-cubic VCoNi concentrated solution, offering insights into atomic packing configuration and dislocation interactions enhanced by CSROs.

Deformation mechanisms of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy under low-cycle-fatigue loading

Kaiju Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, the cyclic deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy during low-cycle fatigue were investigated. Results showed that dislocation structures transitioned from planar slip bands to wavy substructures with increasing strain amplitude, and the formation of different dislocation structures was more influenced by the constraints from neighboring grains rather than grain orientation.

In-situ formed graphene providing lubricity for the FeCoCrNiAl based composite containing graphite nanoplate

Long Wang et al.

Summary: A FeCoCrNiAl high entropy alloy matrix composite containing graphite nanoplates was produced by spark plasma sintering method, and its tribological properties were tested under various loads and velocities. The results showed that the addition of graphite nanoplates significantly reduced the coefficient of friction and wear, attributing to the in-situ formed graphene and tribo-induced oxide layer on the rubbing interface.
