Flexible, Highly Thermally Conductive and Electrically Insulating Phase Change Materials for Advanced Thermal Management of 5G Base Stations and Thermoelectric Generators

Ying Lin et al.

Summary: Thermal management is crucial for high-power-density equipment. Phase change materials (PCMs) have potential in this field but are limited by low thermal conductivity, leakage, and lack of flexibility. However, this study has developed core-sheath structured phase change nanocomposites (PCNs) with high thermal conductivity, flexibility, and high enthalpy, making them suitable for thermal management applications on high-power-density equipment.

Polymer composites filled with core-shell structured nanofillers: effects of shell thickness on dielectric and thermal properties of composites

Dan Cao et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of core-shell structure and shell thickness on the thermal and dielectric properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) filled with silicon dioxide-coated beta-silicon carbide whisker (beta-SiCw@SiO2) were investigated. The formation of an insulating SiO2 layer greatly reduced the dielectric loss and suppressed the dielectric constant of the composites. Increasing the shell thickness further reduced the dielectric loss while having little effect on the dielectric constant. The improved filler-polymer interfacial compatibility and enhanced thermal conductivity of the composites were attributed to the SiO2 shell.

The Investigation of the Effect of Filler Sizes in 3D-BN Skeletons on Thermal Conductivity of Epoxy-Based Composites

Zhengdong Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and environmentally friendly method was proposed to enhance the through-plane thermal conductivity of epoxy composites using a 3D boron nitride framework. The impact of filler sizes in the 3D-BN skeletons on thermal conductivity was also investigated. It was found that the epoxy composite with larger BN fillers exhibited higher through-plane thermal conductivity and maintained low dielectric constants and losses, making it suitable for microelectronic device applications.

Towards inhibiting conductivity of Mo/PVDF composites through building MoO3 shell as an interlayer for enhanced dielectric properties

Weiwei Peng et al.

Summary: Polymer dielectrics with high dielectric constant (epsilon) but low dissipation factor (tan delta) are challenging to prepare. In this work, conductive molybdenum particles were encapsulated with a thin layer of semiconductive molybdenum trioxide to form core-shell structured particles. These particles were then composited with poly(vinylidene fluoride) to generate morphology-controllable composites with high epsilon and low loss. The presence of the molybdenum trioxide interlayer prevents direct contact between particles and hinders long-range electron migration, leading to significantly improved dielectric performances.
