A discrete material optimization method with a patch strategy based on stiffness matrix interpolation

Pengwen Sun et al.

Summary: A discrete material optimization method based on the stiffness matrix interpolation is proposed, with a comprehensive technical process developed using existing finite element software. By using the stiffness matrix instead of the constitutive matrix, the optimization process can be easily integrated with the software. The method has been verified to effectively improve the performance of composite materials.

New blending constraints and a stack-recovery strategy for the multi-scale design of composite laminates

Marco Picchi Scardaoni et al.

Summary: This work proposes a new strategy for dealing with blending requirements in composite structures design, which is successfully implemented in the framework of the multi-scale two-level optimization strategy. By using the polar formalism, new analytical expressions of blending constraints are derived and blended stacking sequences are recovered. The results obtained using the MS2LOS based on the polar formalism outperform those reported in the literature.
