Overall survival and local recurrence following RFA, MWA, and cryoablation of very early and early HCC: a systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis

Pankaj Gupta et al.

Summary: The study compared the overall survival and local recurrence following radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, and cryoablation for very early and early hepatocellular carcinoma. The results showed that these three methods are equally effective for locoregional treatment of very early and early HCC, and age and tumor size did not influence the treatment effect.

Imaging, Pathology, and Immune Correlates in the Woodchuck Hepatic Tumor Model

Michal Mauda-Havakuk et al.

Summary: Woodchucks chronically infected with WHV developed diverse hepatic tumor types with diagnostic imaging, pathology, and immune patterns comparable to that in humans. LR-4 and LR-5 lesions showed high sensitivity (90%) and specificity (100%) for malignant and pre-malignant tumors. Tumors expressed AFP and did not express PD-L1.

The Immunology of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Gbemisola Lawal et al.

Summary: Liver cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death globally, with hepatocellular carcinoma being the most common malignant liver tumor. Surgical resection or transplantation offer potential curative options, but many patients are not candidates due to late diagnosis or poor liver function. Therefore, emerging systemic treatments like immunotherapy have gained increasing popularity as potential alternatives for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients.

Electromagnetic Tracking and Optical Molecular Imaging Guidance for Liver Biopsy and Point-of-Care Tissue Assessment in Phantom and Woodchuck Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Quirina M. B. de Ruiter et al.

Summary: The study evaluated an integrated liver biopsy platform that combines CT image fusion, EM tracking, and ICG tracking for targeting HCC lesions, as well as assessing biopsy cores using OMI technology. The immediate assessment of ICG uptake in biopsy cores with the POC OMI system was feasible and correlated with the presence of HCC in the tissue, demonstrating the potential of this approach for liver cancer detection.
