Computational assessment of biomass dust explosions in the 20L sphere

Alain Islas et al.

Summary: This study conducted numerical simulations of biomass dust explosions using the open-source CFD code OpenFOAM and found that the characteristics of cold flow, particle size, dust concentration, and ignition delay time have significant effects on the explosion process.

Reduced mechanism for flames of propane, n-butane, and their mixtures for application to burners: Development and validation

S. Muthu Kumaran et al.

Summary: Propane, n-butane, and their mixtures are commonly used as fuels, and reliable numerical simulations of flames involving these fuels are crucial for their efficient use. A compact mechanism for these fuels suitable for multidimensional simulations is derived and extensively validated against experimental data. The main oxidation pathways are retained, and the compact mechanism is validated through 1D and 2D computations for premixed and nonpremixed flames.
