Ultrathin samarium-doped palladium nanocrystals with exotic shapes for efficient electrocatalytic ethanol oxidation

Gongguo Zhang et al.

Summary: We report the fabrication of PdSm bimetallic nanocrystals with controlled shapes and explore their applications as the electrocatalysts for electroxidation of ethanol (EOR) in alkaline medium. The success of current synthesis relies on the co-reduction of Pd(acac)2 and Sm(acac)3 in the presence of N-oleyl-1,3-propanediamine (OPDA) and Mo(CO)6 at an elevated temperature. For the first time, ultrathin nanostructures composed of Pd-rare earth metal bimetals could be prepared in high purity, in the form of ultrathin porous nanosheets and concave tetrahedra, together with the size/edge length limited to sub-3 nm size range.

Controllable synthesis of oxygenated carbon supported palladium nanodendrites for highly efficient nitroaromatics reduction

Wen Zhao et al.

Summary: Palladium nanodendrites supported on oxygenated carbon layer were prepared by adjusting the mass ratio of Pd (II) precursor and carbon dots derived from sucrose. Oxygen-bearing groups on carbon dots played a crucial role in reducing Pd(II) into Pd(0), controlling nanoparticle growth, and stabilizing Pd nanodendrites. The as-prepared Pd/ O-carbon exhibited size-dependent catalytic activity and long-term chemical stability in the reduction reaction.

Phosphorus-Doped Activated Coconut Shell Carbon-Anchored Highly Dispersed Pt for the Chemoselective Hydrogenation of Nitrobenzene to p-Aminophenol

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: The effects of phosphorus-doped activated coconut shell carbon (Pt/P-ACC) catalyst on the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene were investigated. The experimental results showed that Pt/P-ACC catalyst exhibited better catalytic activity and selectivity compared to Pt/ACC catalyst. In situ infrared studies also revealed that the interaction effect between Pt and P species led to the electron-rich feature on the surface of Pt, enhancing the selectivity of the hydrogenation reaction.

Pd nanoparticles anchored on porous boron nitride nanofibers as highly active and stable electrocatalysts for formic acid oxidation

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: Porous boron nitride nanofibers are utilized as a support for palladium nanoparticles in the development of a composite catalyst for formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR). The composite catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity and long-term stability, thanks to the high specific surface area and strong interaction between the nanoparticles and support. This study not only demonstrates the suitability of porous boron nitride as a catalyst support for FAOR, but also provides new ideas for the design of novel boron nitride-based catalysts.

Graphitic carbon nitride supported palladium nanocatalyst as an efficient and sustainable catalyst for treating environmental contaminants and hydrogen evolution reaction

Arnet Maria Antony et al.

Summary: Water contamination by toxic effluents poses a threat to the environment and living beings, therefore an effective method for treatment is needed. This study introduces a palladium(0) nanoparticles immo-bilized graphitic-carbon nitride (g-C3N4-Si@Pd) nanocatalyst, which shows high catalytic activity in reducing various environmental contaminants. The nanocatalyst is easily recovered and produces non-toxic byproducts, making it economical and efficient.

Pd nanoparticles anchored and stabilized on N-doped boehmite@C with enhanced catalytic performance in 2-ethyl-9,10 anthraquinone hydrogenation

Jinpeng Zhou et al.

Summary: Pd nanoparticles immobilized on nitrogen-doped boehmite@C composites were prepared via a mild vapor-phase hydrothermal method, resulting in enhanced catalytic performance for 2-ethyl-9,10 anthraquinone hydrogenation. The CCB exhibited similar phase structures and morphology to boehmite, with C and N contents and surface functional groups promoting the anchoring and stabilization of Pd nanoparticles. Compared to traditional methods, this approach provides a viable alternative for preparing high-performance catalysts without the use of excess reductants or capping agents.

Effect of metal particle shape on hydrogen assisted reactions

Paivi Maki-Arvela et al.

Summary: The size and shape of metal particles have significant effects on catalytic activity, selectivity, and stability in various hydrogenation and hydroisomerization reactions. Different shapes of particles exhibit different catalytic behaviors in different reactions. Structure selectivity is reaction-specific and requires further research.
