Anti-frost heave design method for a parabolic canal based on the hydraulic optimal solution set in seasonally frozen regions

Haoyuan Jiang et al.

Summary: Parabolic canals are commonly used in seasonally frozen regions due to their excellent hydraulic characteristics and frost heave resistance, but severe frost damage can still occur. This study analyzed the frost heave characteristics of parabolic canals, established a mechanical model for frost damage, and proposed an anti-frost heave design method based on hydraulic optimal solution set. The research results provide a theoretical basis and technical means for cold-region canal design.

Effects of Freeze-Thaw Cycles on Strength and Wave Velocity of Lime-Stabilized Basalt Fiber-Reinforced Loess

Wensong Wang et al.

Summary: This study examines the mechanical properties of lime-stabilized basalt fiber-reinforced loess under freeze-thaw cycles. The results demonstrate that the addition of basalt fiber and lime enhances the strength of loess and improves its resistance to freeze-thaw damage. Additionally, it is found that there is a linear relationship between UCS and Vp, and Vp can be used to estimate UCS.

Analytical solution for the response of lined trapezoidal canals under soil frost action

Haoyuan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the response characteristics of canal lining under soil frost heaving and proposed a new solution, which was compared with the traditional solution. The factors influencing canal frost heaving were also investigated through parametric analysis. This study is of guiding significance for designing canal engineering and analyzing frost heave response.

Study on the frost heave mechanism of the water conveyance canal and optimized design of slope protection

Hailiang Liu et al.

Summary: Canals play important roles in various aspects, but in seasonally frozen regions, canal slopes often suffer damage from frost heave. This research focused on the Hadashan Water Conservancy Hub, investigating factors influencing frost heave and testing the effectiveness of various protection structures. The study found that temperature and soil water content are key factors, and a specific concrete lining structure was effective in protecting canal slopes.

Longitudinal Deformation Model and Parameter Analysis of Canal Lining under Nonuniform Frost Heave

Pengfei He et al.

Summary: The unique hydrothermal environments in cold regions frequently lead to frost heave failure of concrete lining in water conveyance canals. A mechanical model for the bottom lining under nonuniform frost heave deformation was established, showing that dangerous cross-sections occur at the start and end of transition sections. As subgrade coefficient and frost heave amount increase, while shear modulus and transition section length decrease, maximum normal stress and tangential stress on the lining also increase.
