Skills for pills: The dialectical-behavioural therapy skills training reduces polypharmacy in borderline personality disorder

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of dialectical-behavioral therapy skills training module on polypharmacy in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). The results showed that patients in the skills training group had a significant reduction in the number of medications, medication load, and use of sedatives, mood stabilizers, and antipsychotics.

The German Guidelines for the treatment of anxiety disorders: first revision

Summary: The 2014 German Guidelines for Anxiety Disorders have been revised by a consensus group in 2019, with the addition of 92 new RCTs. The guideline recommends the use of CBT as the primary psychological treatment, and SSRIs and SNRIs as first-line drugs for anxiety disorders. Alternative strategies should be considered for patients non-responsive to standard treatments.

Pharmacological interventions for people with borderline personality disorder

The results showed that compared to placebo, medication had no significant effects on BPD symptom severity, self-harm, suicide-related outcomes, and psychosocial functioning. However, the evidence quality was very low, and more research is needed to understand the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of BPD and the impact of comorbidities.
