Brachytherapy training survey among radiation oncology residents in Europe

Alina Emiliana Sturdza et al.

Summary: This study investigated the current state of brachytherapy (BT) training among radiation oncology trainees in Europe. The results showed that although the trainees considered independent BT practice to be important, they lacked confidence in achieving this goal. Efforts are needed to develop and implement a formal and comprehensive BT curriculum to address this gap.

Functional results of exclusive interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) in the treatment of nasal vestibule carcinomas

Francesco Bussu et al.

Summary: This study compared the therapeutic effects of interventional radiotherapy (IRT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (EBRT) on patients with nose vestibule squamous cell carcinoma (NV SCC) and their impact on nasal functional parameters. The results showed that the IRT treatment group had significantly better nasal function and cytological findings, confirming IRT as a new standard for the treatment of NV SCC.

Palliative treatment with high-dose-rate endobronchial interventional radiotherapy (Brachytherapy) for lung cancer patients

Tamer Soror et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed the use of HDR-EBIRT in 347 lung cancer patients, showing that most patients experienced complete or major alleviation of symptoms within 3 months post-treatment. The 1-year and 2-year overall survival rates were 55.2% and 18.3% respectively, with patients achieving complete or major response demonstrating longer median survival.

Simulation-based learning for enhanced gynecologic brachytherapy training among radiation oncology residents

Vonetta M. Williams et al.

Summary: Simulation-based gynecologic brachytherapy training among radiation oncology residents can improve knowledge, confidence, and interest in brachytherapy. Residents' responses regarding the learning environment and baseline knowledge questions improved overall after the workshop, indicating that providing adequate didactic and procedural training may help increase the use of brachytherapy among residents.
