Serum/Plasma Zinc Is Apparently Increased in Ischemic Stroke: a Meta-analysis

Mengyun Huang et al.

Summary: The association between zinc levels and stroke risk remains controversial, but a meta-analysis showed no significant difference in zinc levels between the stroke group and control group overall. However, zinc levels were significantly higher in ischemic stroke patients compared to controls, indicating a possible association with increased risk of ischemic stroke.

Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio Predicts Early Neurological Deterioration after Endovascular Treatment in Patients with Ischemic Stroke

Simona Lattanzi et al.

Summary: The worsening of neurological status shortly after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a serious problem, and inflammation plays a key role in stroke pathology. A study found that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) at admission in AIS patients undergoing endovascular treatment (EVT) is associated with early neurological deterioration (END). Higher NLR values predicted a higher risk of END.

Selenium, Copper, Zinc Concentrations and Cu/Zn, Cu/Se Molar Ratios in the Serum of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke in Northeastern Poland-A New Insight into Stroke Pathophysiology

Anna Mironczuk et al.

Summary: The study showed that serum Se and Zn levels were significantly lower in patients with acute ischemic stroke, while Cu levels did not differ significantly. Patients with AIS had significantly higher Cu/Zn and Cu/Se ratios, indicating disturbed metal homeostasis as a significant contributor to the pathogenesis of AIS.
