Black and White Patients With Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia Have Similar Outcomes but Different Risk Factors

Felicia Ruffin et al.

Summary: The study found that Black and White patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia had similar outcomes, despite differences in age, diabetes, and hemodialysis dependence. The results highlight the need for further research on the reasons behind the disparities.

Risk Factors for Recurrent Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia

Seong-Ho Choi et al.

Summary: This study identified several risk factors for R-SAB, with the highest risk observed among black hemodialysis patients. Higher levels of RANTES in R-SAB compared to matched controls suggest a need for further investigation.

Analysis of sex differences in the clinical presentation, management and prognosis of infective endocarditis in Spain

Laura Varela Barca et al.

Summary: Sex-dependent differences in infective endocarditis (IE) were studied, revealing that women had lower incidence but more severe symptoms, with mitral valve involvement being more common. Staphylococcus aureus was more frequently found as the etiology in women. Women were less likely to undergo surgery and had a higher in-hospital mortality rate.

Propensity-Score Analysis Reveals that Sex is Not a Prognostic Factor for Mortality in Intensive Care Unit-Admitted Patients with Septic Bacteremia

Manuel Ponce-Alonso et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that male patients admitted to the ICU with septic bacteremia were more likely to have sepsis and higher mortality rates. Although males presented with worse clinical characteristics upon ICU admission, gender did not have a significant influence on mortality.

Bacterial genotype and clinical outcomes in solid organ transplant recipients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia

Emily M. Eichenberger et al.

Summary: Solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) do not experience higher mortality compared to non-transplant recipients. The bacterial genotype of SAB in SOT recipients is similar to non-SOT recipients, and does not significantly impact the outcomes in SOT recipients with SAB. However, transplant status is associated with an increased risk of septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome in SOT recipients.
