Novel Advanced Impedance Metrics on Impedance-pH Testing Predict Lung Function Decline in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Vikram Rangan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between novel metrics (MNBI and PSPW index) and lung function decline in patients with IPF. The results showed that lower MNBI and PSPW index were associated with more severe lung function decline. These metrics may have prognostic value for IPF and support the role of reflux in its pathogenesis.

Summary: This study found that choosing the left lateral sleep position during nighttime can reduce the severity of nighttime gastroesophageal reflux, and the clearance time for acid in the esophagus is shorter.

Summary: This article provides updated recommendations and practical guidance for the evaluation and management of GERD, including pharmacologic, lifestyle, surgical, and endoscopic management. The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has raised concerns about long-term safety and overprescribing. New data regarding surgical and endoscopic interventions have also emerged.
