Endohedral Metallofullerenes: An Ideal Platform of Sub-Nano Chemistry

Wangqiang Shen et al.

Summary: The research group focuses on the hollow cavity structure of C60 fullerenes to stabilize unstable metallic clusters and explore their hidden chemical properties and reaction mechanisms. Through electronic interactions, internal metallic species influence the chemical properties of cage carbons, resulting in high regioselectivity and high yield.

Ultrahard magnetism from mixed-valence dilanthanide complexes with metal-metal bonding

Colin A. Gould et al.

Summary: Mixed-valence dilanthanide complexes with a singly occupied lanthanide-lanthanide sigma-bonding orbital were reported, showing outstanding magnetic properties due to the strong alignment of the sigma-bonding and f electrons on both lanthanides. The combination of a well-isolated high-spin ground state and large magnetic anisotropy in (Cp-iPr5)(2)Dy2I3 results in an enormous coercive magnetic field at high temperatures.

Heterometallic Clusters with Uranium-Metal Bonds Supported by Double-Layer Nitrogen-Phosphorus Ligands

Qin Zhu et al.

Summary: In this paper, the construction of heterometallic molecular clusters with multiple U-TM single or multiple bonds supported by novel double-layer N-P ligands is described, and the catalytic and small-molecule activation applications of these species are summarized. The research results demonstrate the potential of these heterometallic molecular clusters in construction and applications.

A crystalline tri-thorium cluster with σ-aromatic metal-metal bonding

Josef T. Boronski et al.

Summary: Actinide-actinide bonding is typically predicted to be weak and difficult to observe under normal conditions, but the experimental discovery of thorium-thorium bonding in a crystalline cluster has revealed a new type of sigma-aromatic bond that challenges previous theoretical predictions. This discovery extends delocalized sigma-aromatic bonding to the heaviest elements in the periodic table and offers a new approach to studying actinide-actinide bonding.
