Theoretical investigations on reactivity influencing factors of Mn(CO)5 catalyzed alkyne hydrosilylation and hydrogermylation

Jinying Zhang et al.

Summary: The transition metal-catalyzed alkyne functionalization reaction is a green and sustainable method for producing useful organic reagents. This study investigated the mechanism and factors influencing the reactivity of the alkyne hydrogermylation reaction catalyzed by Mn(CO)(5) through DFT calculations. The results showed that the reaction involves three processes, with the radical transformation process being the rate-determining step. The selectivities and reactivity of the reaction are influenced by the properties of the substituents and solvents involved.

Charge-regulated regioselective mechanism of bicobalt-catalyzed hydrogermylation of alkynes: DFT investigation

Jinying Zhang et al.

Summary: Transitional metal catalyzed alkynes functionalization reaction is an atom-efficient, green, and sustainable method to synthesize functional molecules from triple bonds. In this study, the mechanism of alkyne hydrogermylation catalyzed by Co2(CO)8 was investigated using DFT calculations. The results reveal that the regioselectivity of the reaction is determined by the distribution of negative charges on the C1 and C2 atoms in alkynes.

Comparative DFT Study on Dehydrogenative C(sp)-H Elementation (E = Si, Ge, and Sn) of Terminal Alkynes Catalyzed by a Cationic Ruthenium(II) Thiolate Complex

Yahui Li et al.

Summary: A comparative theoretical study was conducted on dehydrogenative C(sp)-H functionalizations of a terminal alkyne with group-14-based hydrides catalyzed by an Ohki-Tatsumi complex. The energy barriers for the reaction and the transition states involved in the rate-determining step were found to be highly dependent on the identity of the group 14 elements. The study sheds light on the origin of the experimentally observed kinetic preference toward dehydrogenative C-H stannylation over hydrostannation.

Radical Silyl- and Germylzincation of Propargylic Alcohols

Karen de la Vega-Hernandez et al.

Summary: The study examines the silyl- and germylzincation of propargylic alcohols, showing that these reactions proceed through the addition of silicon- or germanium-centered radicals followed by trapping of the produced vinyl radical by diethylzinc. The study also discusses the influence of the hydroxy unit on the regio- and stereoselectivity of these reactions, highlighting the importance of achieving beta-regioselective silylzincation and alpha-regioselective germylzincation with trans stereoselectivity. Overall, the C(sp(2))-Zn bond remains available for subsequent in-situ electrophilic substitution leading to net alkyne trans difunctionalization.
