Chiral Macrocyclic AIEgens from BINOL and Tetraphenylethene via Tailoring Chirality of Luminescent Molecular Propellers

Yitong Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a pair of chiral macrocyclic luminogens were successfully synthesized through intramolecular reaction, and their chiral geometry and intramolecular motions were confirmed by experiments and theoretical calculations. These chiral macrocyclic luminogens exhibited aggregation-induced emission and mechanochromic luminescence, with the observation of aggregation attenuated CD signals and circularly polarized luminescence in solvents and matrices. These results provided a new approach for constructing chiral aggregation-induced emission luminogens and their structural engineering.

Spiro-based diamond-type nanogrids (DGs) via two ways: 'A1B1'/'A2 + B2' type gridization of vertical spiro-based fluorenol synthons

Ying Wei et al.

Summary: Introducing spirobifluorene to fix the backbone of nanogrids has resulted in diamond-type nanogridons with cross-extension potential, which is different from ladder-type counterparts. The Friedel-Crafts gridization of A(2) + B-2 synthons is more efficient and leads to higher yields of the nanogrids compared to the A(1)B(1) mode, without the formation of dehydroxylated byproducts or linear polymers.

Pillararenes: fascinating planar chiral macrocyclic arenes

Jin-Fa Chen et al.

Summary: Pillararenes, a relatively young class of supramolecular macrocycles, have significant value in chiral science and supramolecular chemistry. They possess planar chirality, but synthesizing stable and resolvable enantiomers remains a challenge due to the easy rotation of the phenylene group. Researchers have proposed construction methods for resolvable chiral pillararenes and demonstrated their wide applications in various fields.
