Conductance of a single molecule C60-SnPc heterojunction

Yifan Wang et al.

Summary: The geometries of molecule-molecule interfaces have a significant impact on the current passing between molecules. This study investigates the contact conductance of molecule-molecule junctions composed of fullerene and tin phthalocyanine molecules using a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope. The experimental method can be applied to study the intermolecular charge transport in various molecular junctions.

Highly insulating alkane rings with destructive σ-interference

Jingyao Ye et al.

Summary: Destructive quantum interference is a unique approach to controlling the leakage current in molecular devices. This study demonstrates the existence of sigma-DQI in a simple series of CmCn ring molecules, suggesting that the covalent alkane system can exhibit DQI through appropriate conformation locking, offering new strategies for future designs of molecular electronic devices and materials.

Tuning Single-Molecule Conductance by Controlled Electric Field-Induced trans-to-cis Isomerisation

C. S. Quintans et al.

Summary: External electric fields have been shown to catalyse chemical reactions efficiently, even those inaccessible via wet-chemical synthesis. Single-molecule junctions of carotenoids have been electrically characterized to show distinct conductance signatures for the trans and cis isomers. The electric field is found to polarize the molecule, mix excited states, and promote both isomerization and electron transport within the molecule.

Sub-nanometer supramolecular rectifier based on the symmetric building block with destructive σ-interference

Longfeng Huang et al.

Summary: A sub-nanometer molecular rectifier was demonstrated based on the supramolecular junction assembled between water and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) molecule, showing destructive sigma-interference for sharp conductance variation. The asymmetric electrode-molecule interaction introduced by supramolecular interaction combined with destructive sigma-interference supports sub-nanometer rectification.
