Cadmium removal mechanistic comparison of three Fe-based nanomaterials: Water-chemistry and roles of Fe dissolution

Xiaoge Huang et al.

Summary: Three Fe-based nanomaterials (nano zero valent iron, sulfidated nZVI, and nano FeS) were compared for the immobilization of Cd(II) under anaerobic conditions. The results showed that sulfidated nZVI had the highest removal efficiency, followed by nano FeS, while nano zero valent iron had the lowest removal efficiency. The presence of co-existing ions or humic acid had little impact on Cd removal. A strong linear correlation was observed between Cd(II) removal and Fe(II) dissolution.
