A novel electro-Fenton process coupled with sulfite: Enhanced Fe3+ reduction and TOC removal

Ge Song et al.

Summary: The Fe3+-EF/sulfite process enhances the degradation and mineralization of organic pollutants by preventing Fe3+ precipitation and accelerating the iron cycle, resulting in improved H2O2 utilization efficiency and reduced electric energy consumption. Reactive species like SO3 center dot-, SO4 center dot-, center dot OH, O-2(center dot-) and O-1(2) were identified as responsible for the degradation of pollutants in the process. The process also broadens the pH application range and shows great potential for cost-effective removal of refractory organic pollutants.

Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation of Carbamazepine: Mechanism and optimal operating conditions

Sara Feijoo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the effective electrochemical degradation of carbamazepine (CBZ) in water using a Boron-Doped Diamond (BDD) anode. The optimized conditions for complete CBZ removal within 5 minutes include CBZ concentration of 1μM, pH 2, temperature of 30 degrees C, 10 mM Na2SO4, and 50 A m(-2). The presence of SO42- and NO3- ions in solution is found to be crucial for achieving optimal degradation results.

Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) in the environment: Plant uptake, translocation, bioaccumulation, and human health risks

S. Keerthanan et al.

Summary: The article reviews the occurrence of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) in the environment and their impacts on plants, as well as the potential risks to human health. It highlights the differential uptake and bioaccumulation of PPCPs in plants, with a focus on the factors influencing plant uptake and translocation. Future research should address the mechanisms of plant uptake and translocation of PPCPs and strategies to reduce human health risks associated with consumption of contaminated plants.

Effect of inorganic anions on the performance of advanced oxidation processes for degradation of organic contaminants

Jianlong Wang et al.

Summary: Inorganic anions such as chloride, carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, and nitrate have a significant impact on the performance of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). This influence is not solely attributed to their quenching effect, but also affects reactive species, oxidant stability, catalyst activity, and degradation products. Understanding the comprehensive evaluation of the effect of inorganic anions on AOPs is crucial for optimizing the treatment of organic pollutants.

FeS2/carbon felt as an efficient electro-Fenton cathode for carbamazepine degradation and detoxification: In-depth discussion of reaction contribution and empirical kinetic model

Tingyu Cui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation of Carbamazepine by electro-Fenton oxidation using a FeS2/carbon felt cathode, accelerating the reaction between H2O2 and ferrous ions to produce more hydroxyl radicals and eliminate iron sludge. Various operational parameters were explored, and an empirical kinetic model was established to predict changes in CBZ concentration. The contribution of different oxidation types to the EF process was calculated and the role of the FeS2-modified cathode was verified through kinetic analysis and quenching experiments.
