Chemistry-informed machine learning prediction of compressive strength for alkali-activated materials

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a machine learning model based on chemistry information to estimate the compressive strength of alkali-activated materials (AAMs). By utilizing chemical feature engineering and four applied ML models, accurate predictions were achieved with detailed analysis on the impact of mixture design variables on the compressive strength development of AAMs.

Evaluation of IDE-based flexible thin film ZnO sensor for VOC sensing in a custom designed gas chamber at room temperature

Pratima Bhat et al.

Summary: In this study, we report the fabrication of Interdigitated Electrode-based thin film Zinc oxide sensor and its application in studying volatile organic compounds such as 1-butanol. The results showed that the sensor had a high relative response towards 1-butanol at 50 ppm level. Surface characterization revealed a uniform hexagonal disc-like structure of ZnO in hexagonal wurtzite phase with highly crystalline nature.

Domain invariant covariate selection (Di-CovSel) for selecting generalized features across domains

Valeria Fonseca Diaz et al.

Summary: Variable selection is crucial in multivariate spectral analysis. However, selected variables often fail to provide accurate estimates of properties in different testing environments. This study proposes a new method called domain invariant covariate selection (di-CovSel) that selects the most informative variables that are insensitive to differences in instruments, sample conditions, and environmental factors. The method demonstrates its potential in four real cases of calibration models for near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy on agri-food materials, showing improved prediction accuracy compared to standard variable selection approaches.

Statistical shape analysis pre-processing of temperature modulated metal oxide gas sensor response for machine learning improved selectivity of gases detection in real atmospheric conditions

Valeriy V. Krivetskiy et al.

Summary: Development of new signal processing approaches is crucial for enhancing the reliability of metal oxide gas sensor performance in real atmospheric conditions. Advantages of statistical shape analysis (SSA) method over other signal pre-processing techniques have been demonstrated, showing improved detection selectivity for chemically related gases such as methane and propane. The proposed data preprocessing algorithm has shown less sensitivity to sensor response and baseline drift compared to other methods, even during extended periods of continuous operation with periods of inactivity.

Two-dimensional MoS2-based impedimetric electronic tongue for the discrimination of endocrine disrupting chemicals using machine learning

Wania A. Christinelli et al.

Summary: This paper introduced machine learning methods to analyze capacitance spectra obtained with an electronic tongue (e-tongue) to discriminate three endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDC) and their mixtures. By applying multi-target regression strategy and feature selection procedure, the study successfully predicted the concentration of individual contaminants and their mixtures with high accuracy.

Selective Discrimination of VOCs Applying Gas Sensing Kinetic Analysis over a Metal Oxide-Based Chemiresistive Gas Sensor

Snehanjan Acharyya et al.

Summary: Semiconducting metal oxide-based gas sensors lack selectivity due to responsiveness to various gases. Gas sensing kinetic analysis was employed to precisely identify volatile organic compounds, with excellent sensor response and high sensitivity observed. The Eley-Rideal model was utilized for theoretical fitting and calculation of characteristic kinetic properties to discriminate among different VOCs.
