Catalytic Amidomethylative [2+2+2] Cycloaddition of Formaldimine and Styrenes toward N-Heterocycles

Hetti Handi Chaminda Lakmal et al.

Summary: A chemo-switchable catalytic [2+2+2] cydoaddition method using alkenes with formaldimines has been reported. The synthesis of hexahydropyrimidine and 2,4-diarylpiperidine derivatives were achieved using two different pathways, one involving the 'imine-alkene-imine' addition mechanism and the other involving the retro-[2+2] reaction, respectively. The reactions were catalyzed by environmentally friendly catalysts InCl3 and FeBr2.

Biocatalytic One-Carbon Ring Expansion of Aziridines to Azetidines via a Highly Enantioselective [1,2]-Stevens Rearrangement

David C. Miller et al.

Summary: The study reports the enantioselective one-carbon ring expansion of aziridines to form azetidines through engineered carbene transferase enzymes. A variant of cytochrome P450BM3, P411-AzetS, showed unparalleled stereocontrol (99:1 er) in the [1,2]-Stevens rearrangement and could override the inherent reactivity of aziridinium ylides to perform this rearrangement. By controlling the reactive aziridinium ylide intermediates, these evolvable biocatalysts enable a transformation not achievable by other catalyst classes.

Synthesis of N-tosylaziridines from substituted alkenes via zirconooxaziridine catalysis

Ali A. Pinarci et al.

Summary: In this study, the zirconooxaziridine promoted aziridination of alkenes using chloramine T as the quantitative source of N was reported, showing high yields, diastereoselectivities, and stereospecificity for a wide variety of substituted alkenes. A potential mechanism involving the formation of a zirconooxaziridine complex as the active catalyst has been proposed, with initial mechanistic data indicating a highly associative mechanism as the predominant pathway for this transformation.

Merging strain-release and copper catalysis: the selective ring-opening cross-coupling of 1,2-oxazetidines with boronic acids

Ji-Hang Xu et al.

Summary: An unprecedented ring-opening cross-coupling of 1,2-oxazetidines with arylboronic acids using copper catalysis has been achieved. This reaction offers simple operation, inexpensive catalyst, broad scope, and high regioselectivity, leading to a wide range of aminomethylation products. Furthermore, the obtained products can be further transformed and bioactive acids can be modified.
