Tunable Intermolecular Charge Transfer in Ionic Liquid Crystalline Derivatives of the [closo-B10H10]2-Anion

Litwin Jacob et al.

Summary: A new paradigm of ionic liquid crystals with low-energy charge transfer bands is demonstrated in this study. By investigating four series of ion pairs, it is found that all ion pairs can form SmA phases and exhibit charge transfer bands in solid, fluid, and solution states. The position of the charge transfer band is correlated with the difference in frontier molecular orbital energies of the ions and the substituent sigma(p) parameters.

Regulation of solid-state dual-emission properties by switching luminescence processes based on a bis-o-carborane-modified anthracene triad

Kazuhiro Yuhara et al.

Summary: We demonstrate the design of dual-emission properties in crystals, which can switch luminescence processes based on temperature changes. The intensity ratios between the dual emissions are sensitive to temperature, making it suitable for ratiometric sensing systems.

High-Performance Trichloroacetic Acid Sensor Based on the Intramolecular Hydrogen Bond Formation and Disruption of a Specially Designed Fluorescent o-Carborane Derivative in the Film State

Ke Liu et al.

Summary: A rapid, sensitive, and specific method for detecting gaseous TCA was proposed in this study, utilizing a fluorescent film fabricated with CB-BT-OCH3. The film was stable photochemically, highly sensitive to TCA vapor, and had a detection limit lower than the safety limit. A conceptual sensor based on multiple signal responses was successfully developed.

Recovering the Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence in Aggregation-Induced Emitters of Carborane

Zhaojin Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that Janus carboranes have low luminescence efficiency in solutions, but the efficiency increases in aggregates and solid, showing AIE enhancement. By doping with 1,3-bis(carbazol-9-yl)benzene (mCP), the TADF properties of Cb-1/2/3 were successfully restored, achieving high external quantum efficiency and maximum brightness in organic light-emitting diodes.

Impact of the Electronic Environment in Carbazole-Appended o-Carboranyl Compounds on the Intramolecular-Charge-Transfer-Based Radiative Decay Efficiency

Seok Ho Lee et al.

Summary: The electronic effect of the carbazole group on the radiative decay of closo-o-carborane was investigated in this study. It was found that linking the o-carborane unit to the ortho- and para-positions of the carbazole group enhanced the ICT-based radiative decay process. The experimental results suggested that the anionic character of the ortho- and para-positions played a key role in this enhancement.

Photonic materials derived from the [closo-B10H10]2- anion: tuning photophysical properties in [closo-B10H8-1-X-10-(4-Y-NC5H5)]-

Szymon Kapuscinski et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of substituents on the photophysical properties of derivatives of [closo-B10H10](2-), revealing the significant impact of the B(10) substituent on the HOMO and the C(4) substituent on the LUMO, allowing for variation of charge transfer band energy and emission energy. Additionally, solvent effects on the photophysical properties were observed, showing a substantial degree of control over these properties through a combination of substituent and solvent effects.
