Triplet-Triplet Annihilation Upconversion by Polymeric Sensitizers

Keshav Kumar Jha et al.

Summary: Triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion is an emerging technology that has the potential to convert long-wavelength photons to higher photon energies. Transferring the upconversion system from solution to solid matrices is a challenge, but various approaches have been established. This study investigates the effect of integrating molecular sensitizers into a PMMA polymer on the upconversion process, and compares the results to those using a monomeric annihilator.

Effect of the iodine atom position on the phosphorescence of BODIPY derivatives: a combined computational and experimental study

Elena Bassan et al.

Summary: A new BODIPY derivative (o-I-BDP) containing an iodine atom in the ortho position of the meso-linked phenyl group was prepared. It was found that o-I-BDP displays phosphorescence while maintaining the electrochemical properties of unsubstituted BODIPYs. Theoretical investigations shed light on the influence of iodine position on electronic and photophysical properties.

BODIPY-pyrene donor-acceptor sensitizers for triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion: the impact of the BODIPY-core on upconversion efficiency

Natalia Kiseleva et al.

Summary: Triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion (TTA-UC) is an important optical process used in biophotonics, solar energy harvesting, and photochemistry. The use of heavy-atom-free sensitizers in TTA-UC is a challenge, but it has been found that certain sensitizers can still achieve efficient intersystem crossing and high quantum yields of upconversion luminescence under specific conditions.

A SOCT-ISC type photosensitizer coumarin-BODIPY promoted by AIE effect: Mechanism of singlet oxygen generation, simulated PDT in A-549 cells and fluorescence imaging in zebrafish

Lingfeng Wang et al.

Summary: The photosensitizer CM-BDP exhibited aggregation induced emission (AIE) effect, allowing it to function effectively in high water content environments. It also demonstrated a significant increase in singlet oxygen yield under 90% water content, indicating the AIE effect can enhance singlet oxygen generation by conserving energy.

Radiative lifetime of a BODIPY dye as calculated by TDDFT and EOM-CCSD methods: solvent and vibronic effects

Rengel Cane E. Sia et al.

Summary: The study investigates the radiative emission lifetime and excited state properties of a BODIPY dye using theoretical calculations, revealing that EOM-CCSD improves the emission energy compared to TDDFT. The state-specific solvation methods are more suitable for describing solvent effects on the dye, and vibronic effects increase the radiative lifetime. HT effects have minimal impact on spectra and lifetimes.
