Sensitivity of Alternaria spp. from potato to pyrimethanil, cyprodinil, and fludioxonil

Sarah Budde-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Early blight and brown leaf spot are common potato diseases in the Midwest, caused by Alternaria solani and various Alternaria species. These fungi have developed reduced sensitivity to certain fungicides, leading to the need for further research on their impact on disease control. Incorporating fungicides like fludioxonil and cyprodinil into rotation programs may help manage resistance and control leaf spot diseases.

Multi-residue analytical method development and risk assessment of 56 pesticides and their metabolites in tea by chromatography tandem mass spectroscopy

Yangliu Wu et al.

Summary: A modified QuEChERS method coupled to chromatography tandem mass spectroscopy was used to identify pesticides and metabolites residues in tea samples from China. The study found that there is unlikely a public health concern for Chinese consumers, but unauthorized and banned pesticides still pose potential risks to human health. Further attention is needed for the cumulative risk of residual pesticides and their metabolites on human health.

Fungicide Resistance in Venturia effusa, Cause of Pecan Scab: Current Status and Practical Implications

J. R. Standish et al.

Summary: The most economically damaging disease of pecan in the southeastern United States is pecan scab caused by Venturia effusa, which can be effectively managed through multiple fungicide applications. Fungicide resistance can impact the return on investment for commercial growers, as V. effusa exhibits genetic diversity and overwinters in the tree, leading to a high risk for developing resistance. Recent studies have improved scab and fungicide resistance management, highlighting the importance of understanding these factors in southeastern pecan orchards.

Summary: Six disubstituted Schiff base compounds were synthesized and characterized. Compounds A1 and A2 showed good antifungal activity against Wheat gibberellic, with A1 and A2 having the smallest docking energy. Analysis using density functional theory further explained the reasons behind the good activity of these compounds.

Antifungal activity of double Schiff bases of chitosan derivatives bearing active halogeno-benzenes

Lijie Wei et al.

Summary: Chitosan derivatives bearing active halogenated aromatic imines were successfully synthesized with high degrees of substitution, and their antifungal activity was investigated. The results demonstrated that derivatives with higher substitution degrees and halogeno-benzenes exhibited enhanced antifungal effects, providing a practical strategy for developing stronger antifungal agents.

Eman A. Ghareeb et al.

Summary: A series of nitrogen heterocycles were successfully synthesized using a readily obtainable building block synthon, and a fused heterocycle was also synthesized by different reaction routes. The synthesized compounds showed potent insecticidal activity against two insect species, prompting further study. DFT analysis was performed on the most potent compounds.

Design, synthesis and mechanistic study of new 1,2,4-triazole derivatives as antimicrobial agents

Noha H. Amin et al.

Summary: Novel 5-amino-1,2,4-triazole derivatives and their cyclized 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine analogues were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial activities. Compounds 9, 13a and 13b showed high to moderate antifungal activities against candida albicans, with considerable safety profiles, showing lower cytotoxicity against human embryonic kidney or red blood cells. Furthermore, compound 9 exhibited significant inhibitory activity against lansterol 14 alpha-demethylase compared to fluconazole, with favorable oral bioavailability predicted in in silico ADME studies.
