Multi-constituents variation in medicinal crops processing: Investigation of nine cycles of steam-sun drying as the processing method for the rhizome of Polygonatum cyrtonema

Shaoqing Zhu et al.

Summary: The rhizome of Polygonatum cyrtonema is widely used in Asia for its tonic effect, and traditional steam-sun drying for nine cycles enhances its efficacy. The study compared the multiple constituents in P. cyrtonema after different drying methods, with four cycles of steam-heated air drying showing the highest content of total saccharides, fructose, and phospholipids. Samples treated with heated-air drying and infrared drying were found to be unsuitable replacements for traditional steam-sun drying.

Identification of Polygonati Rhizoma in three species and from different producing areas of each species using HS-GC-IMS

Yijun Song et al.

Summary: In this study, the headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry method was used to analyze the volatile organic compounds of Polygonati Rhizoma, successfully identifying the three different species and different areas of each species. The results of principal component analysis showed that the volatile organic compounds can effectively differentiate different species and areas of Polygonati Rhizoma. This research is of great importance for distinguishing different species and areas of traditional Chinese medicine.

Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of Flos Puerariae by using chemical fingerprint in combination with chemometrics method

Jing Han et al.

Summary: In this study, qualitative and quantitative analyses of Flos Puerariae (FP) were conducted using chemical fingerprint and chemometrics methods. The chemical markers of FP were identified through HPLC and various analyses. The chemical constituents of FP were profiled and identified using HPLC-FT-ICR MS, and the characteristic constituents were quantitatively analyzed. The results demonstrate that the combination of fingerprint analysis and chemometrics methods can enhance the quality control standards of FP.
