π-π stacking controlled photochromic/thermochromic properties of salicylaldehyde Schiff base in solid state

Yuanyuan Li et al.

Summary: Salicylaldehyde Schiff base is a photochromic and thermochromic system with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristic. In this study, three derivatives of salicylaldehyde Schiff base were synthesized and showed similar emissions but different photochromic/thermochromic properties in the solid state. Only one compound exhibited reversible photo-and thermo-responsive performances, which was controlled by the pi-pi stacking structure of adjacent molecules. This work provided a new perspective on understanding the photochromic/thermochromic mechanism of salicylaldehyde Schiff base in the solid state.

Synthesis, spectral characterization, and theoretical investigation of Ni(II) and Pd(II) complexes incorporating symmetrical tetradentate Schiff base ligand: Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction using PdLSym

Hadi Kargar et al.

Summary: In this study, a symmetric ONNO-tetradentate chelating ligand (H2LSym) was utilized to prepare stable Ni(II) and Pd(II) complexes, the molecular structures of which were characterized using FT-IR, NMR, and CHN techniques. The ligand was found to coordinate via phenolic oxygen and imine nitrogen atoms. The catalytic potential of the palladium complex for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions was explored.

Antibacterial and antifungal activities in vitro of a novel silver(I) complex with sulfadoxine-salicylaldehyde Schiff base

Igor Santos Oliveira et al.

Summary: Skin wound infections are a common cause of death in burned patients. The emergence of multidrug resistant microorganisms has complicated the treatment of these infections, necessitating the development of novel antimicrobial agents. In this study, a new silver complex AgSFX-SL was synthesized and shown to have effective antimicrobial and antifungal activities against various pathogens.

Computational investigation of molecular structures, spectroscopic properties and antitumor-antibacterial activities of some Schiff bases

Serpil Kaya et al.

Summary: In this study, the molecular structures, spectroscopic properties, molecular electrostatic potential maps, and some molecular properties of three Schiff bases were computed. The effects of methoxy, methyl, and chloro substituents on the Schiff bases' activities against breast cancer and Mycobacterium tuberculosis were investigated. The results showed that HL2 and HL3 exhibited higher antitumor and antibacterial activities compared to HL1.

Mechanism of the Arene-Limited Nondirected C-H Activation of Arenes with Palladium**

Philipp Wedi et al.

Summary: Recent discovery of palladium catalysts has enabled direct-group-free C-H activation of arenes without excess substrate, allowing for late-stage modification of complex organic molecules. The success lies in the use of two complementary ligands, N-acyl amino acid and N-heterocycle. Mechanistic studies have identified catalytically active species and a transition state model that explains the exceptional activity and selectivity of these catalysts, with potential for further method development.

Hadi Kargar et al.

Summary: A series of novel Cu(II) complexes with four bis-N,O-bidentate Schiffbase ligands were synthesized and characterized. The crystal structures of some complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray analysis, confirming the coordination mode. Theoretical calculations and biological activity evaluation showed promising results for potential antimicrobial agents.

Kiran Meena et al.

Summary: In this study, four sulpha drug based Schiff base ligands and their Sn(II) complexes were synthesized, characterized, and evaluated for biological activities. The C-3 complex showed the best antimicrobial activity against E. coli and A. niger, as well as antimalarial activity against P. falciparum. The results indicated that the dichloride tin complexes were more active compared to their corresponding Schiff base ligands.
