Conditions and processes controlling carbon mineral trapping in intraformational baffles

Achyut Mishra et al.

Summary: The study reveals the conditions governing carbon mineral trapping and its quantification for a range of rock compositions in intraformational baffles. It shows that the presence of baffles with certain rock properties can enhance or reduce carbon mineral trapping capacity, depending on clay and carbonate mineral content. Furthermore, analysis indicates that the precipitation of secondary carbonates occurs at the interface of the two rock types.

Changes in Pore Geometry and Connectivity in the Basalt Pore Network Adjacent to Fractures in Response to CO2-Saturated Fluid

Meghalim Phukan et al.

Summary: The study conducted diffusion-controlled experiments on a fractured basalt to investigate the changes in pore structure during the early phase of reactive fluid flow. Results showed that dissolution and precipitation affected the distribution of pore and throat sizes, leading to self-sealing of fractures and adjacent pore networks.

A physics-based model to predict the impact of horizontal lamination on CO2 plume migration

Maartje Boon et al.

Summary: The study shows that sub-grid scale horizontal lamination has a significant impact on the migration of CO2 plume during geologic sequestration, especially during the initial phase of injection. By incorporating capillary and viscous forces in a physics-based model, effective flow-rate dependent capillary pressure and relative permeability functions have been obtained to accurately describe the capillary number dependency.
