Efficient aerobic oxidation of ethylbenzene accelerated by cu species in hydrotalcite

Xuan Dai et al.

Summary: The CuMgAl hydrotalcite is developed as an efficient catalyst for the aerobic oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone in the presence of NHPI. The reaction is first-order over CuMgAl-LDH, and the catalyst accelerates both the conversion of ethylbenzene and the transformation of the alcohol intermediate to ketone. The positive effect of the catalyst's surface basicity on the reaction has been observed.
