Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), artificial neural network (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA) as a hybrid method for the analysis and optimization of micro-photocatalytic reactors: NOx abatement as a case study

Jessica O. B. Lira et al.

Summary: The hybrid CFD-ANN-GA method was proposed for the analysis and optimization of micro-photocatalytic reactors, with NOx abatement as a case study. The ANN successfully predicted the overall conversion of NO in the micro device, and GA was used to find the optimal operating conditions that maximize the NO conversion. The optimal set of operating conditions was determined based on a Pareto front analysis in a multi-objective optimization.

Review of Machine Learning for Hydrodynamics, Transport, and Reactions in Multiphase Flows and Reactors

Li-Tao Zhu et al.

Summary: Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science are leading to a promising transformative paradigm. ML, especially deep learning and physics-informed ML, is a valuable toolkit that complements incomplete domain-specific knowledge in conventional experimental and computational methods. ML can provide flexible techniques to facilitate the conceptual development of new robust predictive models for multiphase flows and reactors by finding hidden pattern/information/mechanism in a data set.

Viscosity Effect on the Electrospray Characteristics of Droplet Size and Distribution

Ji Yeop Kim et al.

Summary: Electrostatic spraying is a method of atomizing fluid using high voltage, with various spray modes identified based on applied voltage and flow rate. Experiment evaluated Sauter mean diameter and distribution in each spray mode, confirming smallest droplet size in cone jet mode. Droplet size in cone jet mode linearly increased with viscosity and flow rate.
